Responsibilities

Functions under the direction of the Communications Supervisor or designee:

Responsible for the functions of the facility switchboard console and patient information area. This includes the efficient operation of the phones/switchboard, pager, paging system, and all emergency alarms. Demonstrates the capacity to consistently interact professionally with a variety of "customers" including, but not limited to, patients, families, co-workers, volunteers, physicians, and vendors. Assists patients, their families, physicians and staff with general information, while maintaining patient information in a confidential HIPPA compliant manner. Serves as a main source of communication during hospital emergencies, such as codes, and directing visitors, guests and family members to their requested destinations. Maintains and updates facility-wide contact directories.

Maintains a high level of professionalism and customer service, which supports World Class Healthcare. May be called upon to perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma required. Associate’s Degree preferred.

Required Minimum Certification: n/a

Required Minimum Experience: 12 months call center or customer service experience required, preferably in a health care setting.

Required Minimum Skills: Excellent customer service skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, must possess a clear and professional voice for calls and announcements, must be proficient in basic computer skills and systems utilized by the Communicative Services Department. Able to work in a high volume area, detail oriented and possess problem-solving skills. Demonstrates professionalism, effective communication skills and active listening skills. This individual must project a positive attitude via the phone and in person.
