WellStar Medical Group is seeking Palliative Medicine Acute Care Medical Director for full-time opportunity. The Medical Director will provide operational, strategic, outreach, and clinical leadership for all Palliative Care and Hospice services across the WellStar Health System.
o Work closely with and be part of the Hospital Medicine Service Line Leadership
o Work closely with and be part of the WellStar Medical Group leadership including VP & Chief of Hospital Medicine, WMG President and WMG AVP, Operations
o Represent Acute Care Palliative Medicine program to WellStar Hospitals and WellStar Health System Management
o Serve on the WellStar Hospital Medicine Cabinet
o Serve as a go-to person for addressing problems and resolving conflicts associated with the Acute Care Palliative Medicine program.
o Attend and lead the regular business meetings at the Hospital practice level as well as WellStar Medical Group and WellStar Health System level
o Work closely with Post-Acute Care Palliative Medicine Medical Director on system level Palliative Medicine initiatives and transitions of care.
o Ultimately oversee all quality improvement initiatives as dictated by organizational goals of WellStar Hospitals, WellStar Health System and WellStar Physician Group with the ultimate goal of achieving status of a premier Acute Cre Palliative Medicine Program.
o Collaborate with Nursing, Care Coordination, various Physician Groups to achieve the organizational goals
o Actively participate and champion efficiency improvement initiatives, including collaborating on patient flow and resource utilization issues and development and implementation of best practice guidelines, standard order sets, with the ultimate goal to reduce variation in care delivery
o Paying particular attention to Palliative Care penetration of ICUs and EDs.
o Participate in the design of Acute Care Palliative Medicine Program performance monitoring tools, and respond to performance reports.
o Effectively communicate and advocate the organizational expectations to the Acute Care Palliative Medicine providers (MD and APPs alike), and communicate and advocate Acute Care Palliative Medicine needs and concerns to the organization
o Delegate, as necessary, to and engage other Acute Care Palliative Medicine team members in all of the above
o Actively participate in sourcing, recruitment, orientation and oversight of Acute Care Palliative Medicine staff (MD and APP) on a day to day basis
o Provide direct provider oversight, to include counseling and mentoring providers (MD and APPs alike).
o Develop and start utilizing the orientation manual for the WellStar Palliative Medicine Acute Program
o Ensure the right operating systems and processes are in place for effective operations of the Acute Care Palliative Medicine program
o Participate in the budget and financial management process for the Palliative Care and Hospice program
o Get familiarized with the standard financial reports and review them regularly to ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability
o Market the Acute Care Palliative Medicine program to existing and potential customers
o Ensure implementation of best practice Transitions of Care, including timely communication with referring physicians.
o Educate key stakeholders and other constituents regarding the PC & Hospice and its scope of services
o Make customer service (patients, referring physicians, nursing, etc.) a priority and communicate this to PC & Hospice team members
Board Certification is required. Georgia License. Prefer experienced Hospice and Palliative Medicine physician for this leadership role.
