Responsibilities

WellStar , recognized leader in healthcare has an immediate opening at Kennestone Regional Medical Center for an experienced, professional Radiation Oncology Physicist . Our Radiation Oncology Department treats 50 to 75 external beam patients a day on two Elekta Synergy treatment machines. We also treat roughly 250 stereotactic radiation therapy cases a year using our Cyberknife system, and 150 patients a year with our Varisource HDR system. You will find a wide variety of exciting cutting-edge treatment modalities at Kennestone.

Under the indirect supervision of the Director of Oncology, the Physicist ensures the quality of care in the use of radiation producing sources and imaging equipment and the protection of patients and staff from radiation in the Department of Radiation Oncology and is responsible for overall design of equipment, radiology considerations, and operational aspects of the WellStar Oncology facilities, calibrates all radiation therapy equipment, conducts x-ray machine performance surveys as needed and implements quality control procedures for electronic imaging devices, recommends radiation safety procedures to areas using radiation and educates staff in radiation protection practices.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree required with at least five years of direct experience in the field. Ph.D. or MS degree in radiation physics or other advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Certification by the American Board of Radiology, American Board of Medical Physics is required, as well as appropriate state licensure.

Required Minimum Experience:

Must have additional experience in all areas of radiation including oncology, radiation oncology, medical physics, therapeutic radiological physics, RTP, Brachyterhapy, calibrate, and Dosimetry.

Required Skills:

Must be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures and be able to rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected, must have ability to be self-motivated and self-directed in daily/routine tasks. The individual must be able to communicate and understand the verbal and written English language and display a positive attitude.
